How to use schema other than dbo?

$

I'm cross posting this because I have not received a response in two days and I'm wondering if I'm in the wrong forum anyway. Here is the original post: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/adodotnetentityframework/thread/20bcfa87-10ff-4249-a03a-68c9a9b3bd28

When I create a user/login called PAZADMIN .\SQLEXPRESS that has a default schema of PAZ and use SQLServer authentication instead of windows authentication, my java programs (that use hibernate/JPA as their ORM to create tables) create tables that begin with "PAZ." instead of "dbo.". This makes sense.

So when abandon windows authentication in favor of SQL authentication in EF, why do all my tables still begin with "dbo." instead of "PAZ."?

Here is my connection string in app.config:

<add name="PropertyGoalSetterEntities" connectionString="metadata=res://*/PGSModel1.csdl|res://*/PGSModel1.ssdl|res://*/PGSModel1.msl;provider=System.Data.SqlClient;provider connection string=&quot;data source=.\SQLExpress;initial catalog=PropertyGoalSetter;persist security info=True;user id=PAZADMIN;password=topsecret;MultipleActiveResultSets=True;App=EntityFramework&quot;" providerName="System.Data.EntityClient" />

When it logs in with this username/password, it should be in the schema PAZ -- correct? It works for java/JPA/Hibernate!

What do I have to do to make EF create tables that begin with "PAZ." instead of "dbo."?

Thanks

Siegfried

Hi Friends,

  I am using Sql server 2005 and when I execute a procedure which is using some oracle linked server in it and fetching information accordingly . It is working perfectly fine for most of the things but some times it is giving below error .

Perfectly executing with the below :

exec

GetRecords_test '1058989'

Giving error when I try to insert the data to some temp table from the procedure output as below

1)

EXECUTE

sp_ExecuteSQL N'INSERT into #MyTempTable exec GetRecords_test ''1065252'''

2) tried with the below also by creating temporary table with the same columns which are output from the procedure, but no luck

insertinto #MyTempTableexecGetRecords_test '1065252'

No luck :( :( . Please post if any body has same issue come across

Thanks in advance

Regards

Ravi

The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "XXXXXX" was unable to begin a distributed transaction.

OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "XXXXXX" returned message "New transaction cannot enlist in the specified transaction coordinator. ".

Access 2007 on 64-bit server and SQL 08 Express on 32-bit server - which version of product do I use?

$

I have a small number of small Access databases (split into front-end/back-end) and would like to move the back-end databases to SQL. There are both Access 2003 and 2007 databases. I have 3 servers virtualized on a machine running VMware:  the file server on which the Access databases reside and the SQL server to which I’d like to move the back-end database are both running Server 2003 R2 Standard Service Pack 2 (32-bit).  I have SQL 08 Express installed on the SQL server. Users access the databases via RDP to a 2008 Windows Server Enterprise without Hyper-V Service Pack 2.

I started with a 2007 back end database and in order to get the data into SQL I had to Save As to Access 2003 (from .accdb to .mdb) to use the Import and Export Data (32-bit) tool. I have created and deleted it several times because I am having trouble accessing it to link it to my front-end database. Also, since the owner of the db seems to matter – as far as providing access - and since my SQL server is also a backup domain controller, it appears that I need to have the db admin login have system administrator privileges.

But I still can’t seem to figure out how to set up the DSN properly. I read through the forums and tried logging into the terminal server as admin and using odbcad32.exe. But do I use the 64-bit or the 32-bit version?

Also, the only driver for SQL in the DSN list is SQLSRV32.DLL 6.00.6002.18005 4/11/2009. Is this the right one? If not, where do I get the right one (e.g. native client.)

Trouble installing SQL Server ODBC driver - libodbcinst.so.1 not found

I'm trying to install a SQL Server ODBC driver on Linux so that I can communicate with an SQL Server 2005 database.  Since it's a 2005 database server, I believe I can't use the latest driver which says it is for 2008 and above.  So I'm trying to install the file called sqlncli-11.0.1790.0.tar.gz.  After installing unixODBC, I tried installing the SQL driver, but the install failed.  Running ldd sqlncli-11.0.1790.0 shows that libodbcinst.so.1 could not be found.  I read here ( http://mailman.unixodbc.org/pipermail/unixodbc-support/2012-February/003073.html ) that the linked libraries exist in /usr/local/lib rather than /usr/lib64, so I created a symbolic link with this command:  sudo ln -s /usr/local/lib/libodbcinst.so.2 /usr/lib64/libodbcinst.so.1
 Now running ldd shows it linked to the existing library:

 libodbcinst.so.1 => /usr/lib64/libodbcinst.so.1 (0x00007f7d3427a000)

However, when I try to install the SQL driver again, it still fails saying that I don't have the right version of unixODBC installed (I installed the latest version from the site).

Please let me know if you have any suggestions - or if I should use another vendor's driver or a different ODBC driver manager.

linked server error when using local variables

SQL Server 2008 R2

I have a an update statement using local variables that returns an error when executed against a linked server. This is part of a loop that is loading the local variables with data from a local table using a CURSOR, performing some calculations, then updating a table on a linked server:

UPDATE [server].[database].[dbo].[table]
SETField1 = @Field1
,Field2 = @Field2
,Field3 = @Field3
WHERE FieldKey = @KeyValue

This returns error

Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 146
The OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "server" reported an error. Execution terminated by the provider because a resource limit was reached.
Msg 7306, Level 16, State 2, Line 146
Cannot open the table ""database"."dbo"."table"" from OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "server".

However, if I substitute the values of the local variables into the statement, it executes without problem:

UPDATE [server].[database].[dbo].[table]
SETField1 = NULL
,Field2 = '03660000'
,Field3 = 4
WHERE FieldKey = 123456

I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Full Text Search and other parameters

Hi all,

I've more than 4 million records in a table named "profiles". I'm using full text search with this and its works fine if I only use full text search but no other parameters like below:-

	SELECT COUNT(*) TotalCount
	from profiles p With (nolock)
	where p.allowrecruiters=1
	 and  contains(p.doccontent,  @Name1)

I've 20 more other conditions to add into this query. When I pass those conditions with null or default values, it performs very slow. But if i add values in parameters it works perfectly file. The complete query is below

    SELECT COUNT(*) TotalCount
    from profiles p With (nolock)
    where p.allowrecruiters=1
     and  contains(p.doccontent,  @Name1)
        and (@Position ='' or p.RecentJobTitle = @Position)
        and (@Star = 0 OR p.rating >= @Star)
        and (@Salarytype = 0 OR p.RWageFreq = @Salarytype )
        and (@Stateid = 0 OR p.regionid = @Stateid)
        and (@CityId = 0 OR p.cityid = @CityId)
        and (@Experience = 0 OR p.TotalYears = @Experience )
        and (@Militaryid = 0 OR p.Militaryid = @Militaryid)
        and (@Securityid = 0 OR p.Securityid = @Securityid)
        and (@Degree = 0 OR @Degree IN (p.Degree1id, p.Degree2id, p.Degree3id))
        and (@Date = 0 OR InputDate >= @Date)
        and (@ExpectedSalary = 0 OR p.SalaryMinID >= @ExpectedSalary)
        and (@ExpectedMaxSalary = 0 OR p.SalaryMaxID <= @ExpectedMaxSalary)
        and (@Industry1id = 0 OR p.Industry1id = @Industry1id)
        and (@Industry2id = 0 OR p.Industry2id = @Industry2id)
        and (@Industry3id = 0 OR p.Industry3id = @Industry3id)
        and (@Industry4id = 0 OR p.Industry4id = @Industry4id)
        and (@Industry5id = 0 OR p.Industry5id = @Industry5id)
        and (@Jobtype1id = 0 OR p.Desiredempid1 = @Jobtype1id)
        and (@Jobtype1id = 0 OR p.Desiredempid1 = @Jobtype1id)
        and (@Jobtype2id = 0 OR p.Desiredempid2 = @Jobtype2id)
        and (@Jobtype3id = 0 OR p.Desiredempid3 = @Jobtype3id)

Need Help - SQL Query - Order By works in SQL Management Studio but not in ASP.net?

$

I have a SQL query that my team mate and I built in SQL Management Studio 2012.  When we run it in that program, it returns the exact results I am looking for in the correct order.  When I run the exact same query in a web service built with ASP.NET in Visual Studio and put the results into a drop down menu box, the items are all out of order.

Here is the query:

SELECT        id, name, slot
FROM            avatar_item_template
WHERE (active = 'Y') AND (canPurchase = 'Y') AND (id NOT IN
                             (SELECT        item_id
                               FROM            avatar_inventory
                               WHERE        (user_id = 'zFAKE01') AND (active = 'Y')))
ORDER BY slot ASC, name ASC

And here is the ASP.NET code:

DataTable dtItems = DB.FillDataTable(String.Format("SELECT [id], [name], [slot] FROM [avatar_item_template] WHERE [active] = 'Y' AND [canPurchase] = 'Y' AND [id] NOT IN (SELECT [item_id] FROM [avatar_inventory] WHERE [user_id] = {0} AND [active] = 'Y') ORDER BY [slot] ASC,[name] ASC", DB.Sanitize(userId)));

        foreach (DataRow row in dtItems.Rows)
        {
Debug.Print("ID: " + row["id"].ToString() + " " + row["slot"].ToString() + " - " + row["name"].ToString());
}

The results in the Mgmt Studio match the Debug output:

67	Bullseyesauraus Background	Background
97	Dog House	Background
106	Asian Floral Suit	Body
105	Bandstand Black and Gold	Body
110	Bullseye Hawaiian Shirt	Body

ID: 67 Background - Bullseyesauraus Background
ID: 97 Background - Dog House
ID: 106 Body - Asian Floral Suit
ID: 105 Body - Bandstand Black and Gold
ID: 110 Body - Bullseye Hawaiian Shirt

Yet the drop down menu shows:

Finally, here is how I am inserting the items into the drop down:

Web Service code:

JavaScriptSerializer json = new JavaScriptSerializer();
Hashtable results = new Hashtable();

foreach (DataRow row in dtItems.Rows){
    results.Add(row["id"].ToString(), row["slot"].ToString() + " - " + row["name"].ToString());
}

return json.Serialize(results);

JavaScript:

var results = jQuery.parseJSON(data.d);
                        var htmlStr = "Please select an item for: <br/>" + name + "<hr/><table><tr><td><select id=\"AwardDropDown\">";
                        for (var key in results) {
                            htmlStr += "<option value=\"" + key + "\">" + results[key] + "</option>";
                        }
                        htmlStr += "</select></td></tr></table><hr/>";

So... why are the items in a different order in the drop down but everywhere else it looks fine?

Informix Provider : either missing or hidden in SQL Server Management Studio. Unable to create linked server.

The 64 bit server I'm working on has an "IBM Informix OLE DB Provider" fully installed, configured and working on it. It was installed using the IBM Informix Client-SDK (not by me). I know it's working because in Visual Studio if I create a new SSIS package I can create a new connection to the Informix server with the provider appearing as "Native OLD DB\IBM Informix OLE DB Provider" in the Connection Manager drop-down combo box. Visual Studio recognizes the existence of this provider. With all the correct connection details entered I can then use this Informix connection to download data. Everything tests perfectly. So far, so good!

If I open the ODBC Data Source Administrator application (odbcad32.exe) under the "System DSN" tab the Informix driver appears in the window under "System Data Source". Click on configure to review the settings and all the configuration details are spot on! Still looking good.

Now when I attempt to create a linked server to this Informix data source in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (2008R2) things start to go bad. According to this link: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21195578 I should be able to create a simple linked server by choosing the "IBM Informix OLE DB Provider" in the Provider drop-down list on the "New Linked Server" window. But the provider is entirely missing! Management studio does not seem to recognize its existence.

Spent hours trying to solve this one with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Tell when data has been fetched?

I use this:

try { adapter.Fill(tblData); }
catch (Exception Ex)
{
MessageBox.Show(Ex.ToString());
        return;
}

I do not want to continue with the rest of the code until I'm sure the data is in the table.

Sometimes the data will be coming over a slow internet connection.

Is this even a problem? Or does everything halt until the table has been filled?

Thanks

Local Machine - ASP.Net to SQL Server database - Windows or SQL Server authentication

$

I'm developing an ASP.Net website on my local machine at home. I will eventually get it hosted, but for now the website and database reside on my PC and I need to get them fully working in that environment first.

The website will communicate with an SQL Server 2012 database via parameterised queries(stored procedures executed by a least privelege user).

I was stuck on whether to use Windows authentication or SQL Server authentication to connect to SQL Server. Let me clarify what I mean by that in case you don't know:

- when using Windows authentication, the connection string in web.config contains "integrated security=SSPI" with no "User ID" or "password"(a Windows authentication login created in SQL Server takes the User ID and password directly from the Windows account)

- when using SQL Server authentication, the connection string in web.config contains "integrated security=false" with a "User ID" and "password" corresponding to the User ID and password of an SQL Server authentication login created in SQL server.

So I asked this question on another forum. I was advised always to use Windows authentication and provided with a script to achieve the SQL Server element of this. However the first line of the script is:

CREATE LOGIN [Domain/login] FROM WINDOWS WITH DEFAULT_DATABASE=[master]

The above line is designed to create a Windows authentication login for SQL Server(which will then be linked to a matching user, which will be associated with a role, which will finally be granted the necessary execute permissions).

However I'm totally stumped on what I'm supposed to replace "[Domain/login]" with in the above line.

Furthermore it now occurs to me that perhaps Windows authentication is not actually suitable(or even possible) when working on a local machine, but only on a networked PC or web server with a Windows account. I'm afraid I'm *extremely* unknowledgeable about the netwroking /Windows admin side of things! so this is all guesswork believe me.

Please could somebody provide guidance on whether I should use Windows authentication or SQL Server authentication when developing on my local machine? If Windows authentication, then please could somebody advise what I might enter in place of"[Domain/login]"?

Thank you,

David.
